1. How far is the cabin from Blue Ridge or Ellijay?

The cabin is located off Highway 515 between Blue Ridge and Ellijay. It is about 10 miles north to Blue Ridge, and 10 miles south to Ellijay.

2. Is there a grocery store close by?

There are several grocery stores in Blue Ridge and Ellijay, including Ingles and a super Walmart in both Blue Ridge and Ellijay.

3. Can you suggest some activities in the area?

There are many activities in the area – hiking, waterfalls, boating, fishing, shopping, train ride, apple houses, helicopter fly-over, zip line, white water rafting, horseback riding, an adventure park, and more. For shopping, don’t miss the variety of unique shops along Main Street in Blue Ridge, or the antique shops around the square in Ellijay. Some of our favorite places are Mercier’s Apple House just a few miles north of Blue Ridge, Amicalola Falls, and Gibbs Gardens about 45 minutes south of Ellijay. There is a fine art gallery in Blue Ridge and Ellijay, as well as a community theatre. Children enjoy the petting zoo in Ellijay. The whole family would enjoy the scenic train ride in Blue Ridge and the drive-in theater (one of only two in the state). For wine tasting there are a number of vineyards close by. We keep brochures in the cabin which describe many of the activities in the area. And don’t forget that you are only a little over an hour away from Atlanta or Chattanooga with all they have to offer.

4. Are there good restaurants nearby?

The closest restaurant is the Pink Pig Barbeque about 2 miles from the cabin just off Highway 515. There are many restaurants in Blue Ridge and Ellijay – everything from fast food to fine dining, including popular chains like Ruby Tuesday and Longhorn Steak House. For local restaurants, we especially like the Cajun Depot in Ellijay and Charlie’s Italian Restaurant. Shane’s BBQ in Ellijay is a very casual and less expensive family friendly restaurant with great BBQ and a wide selection of side dishes. A good breakfast favorite is the Bumblebee in Blue Ridge, across the highway from Ingles. Mercier’s (for breakfast and lunch) by the railroad tracks is also very popular. A fairly new restaurant in Blue Ridge, Chester’s, is very popular.Don’t miss getting a cupcake at the Sweet Shop in Blue Ridge. They won the cupcake wars on HGTV. There are many others in Blue Ridge and Ellijay. We keep a stack of restaurant menus and brochures in the cabin on the kitchen counter.

5. Can you tell us more about the shooting range?

The shooting range is simply an open field surrounded by sloping woodland on private property. It is a nice walk or short drive from the cabin. The range is intended for target practice only – no rapid fire, skeet shooting, or explosives. The maximum shooting distance is about 100 yards. You need to bring your own targets and equipment, and clean up the field after you are finished. Be careful not to shoot into and tear up the turf or trees. We request that you limit your shooting time to 3 hours a day and do not shoot after sunset. No special permits are required to use the shooting range.

6. What should I bring? Do you supply linens?

The cabin is fully equipped. You only need to bring your personal belongings and food. In addition to linens and towels, extra blankets and pillows, we supply paper goods – toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags. We also have bath amenities, dish washing and laundry soap, cleaning supplies, coffee filters, salt & pepper, and assorted spices.

7. Does the cabin sleep 8?

No, we have beds for 6 adults – a king, a queen, and 2 twin beds. We will allow for an extra person in special circumstances with prior permission from the owners. Please contact us if you are considering an extra person.

8. Is the cabin on the river?

The cabin is not on the river, but on a bluff above the river. You cannot see the river from the cabin, but you have a beautiful mountain view. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk down to the river from the cabin along the nature trail. The trail follows the river edge for about ½ mile, then turns back up to the cabin. You can also drive down to the river to access the flat parts of the trail and the garden with the gazebo. There is a map in the cabin for the nature trail.

9. Can you fish or tube in the river?

The river is good for fishing. We occasionally stock it with trout, but there are also other native fish. You would need to bring your own fishing poles or pick up some inexpensive ones at Walmart on your way in. You do not need a fishing license.

The river is shallow in most places, so tubing is only good when the water is high due to a lot of rain. It is great for wading, and children love to play in the shallow rapids around the island.

10. Do you have wifi?

There is wifi at the cabin. You don’t need a password to access it.

11. How is the water for drinking?

The water in the cabin comes from a deep, spring-fed well which is filtered as it comes into the cabin. It is very good drinking water, so you do not have to bring bottled water.

12. Is there an outdoor firepit or grill?

There is a gas grill on the deck. Please keep it covered when not in use, and clean it off after each use. There is an outside firepit with a limited amount of firewood when provided.
